Holy Basil (Tulsi)

from $4.25

Latin Name:  Ocimum sanctum or Ocimum tenuiflorum

Energetics: Warming, Drying, and Relaxing

Special note: This herb has two common names.  I was introduced to this herb as Holy Basil, so I call it Holy Basil.  Half of the herbalists out there do the same thing.  The other half of herbalists call it by its other common name, and this is Tulsi.  Holy Basil and Tulsi are the same plant, just two different names.  I also want to point out that this herb is different from the culinary Basil that we cook with.  They come from the same genus, but different species.

Main uses: Holy Basil is an adaptogen.  This means that it is nourishing and strengthens the adrenal glands.  The adrenal glands are in charge of important hormones, the main ones are cortisol, and adrenaline. If we are constantly stressed or anxious, the adrenals are constantly pumping out cortisol.  This can cause a cortisol belly, your adrenals to become fatigued, and/or insomnia.  Holy Basil helps with anxiety, grief, balances cortisol, and blood sugar.  Relaxing adaptogens are very interesting, because they can give you energy during the day, but also help with insomnia at night.

Cautions and Considerations:  Shouldn’t be used while pregnant, without professional supervision.  It is rare, but it can cause acid reflux.

SHIPPING: I SHIP ORDERS OUT EVERY MONDAY AND THURSDAY. ORDERS HAVE TO BE MADE BEFORE SUNDAY BY NOON TO BE SHIPPED OUT ON MONDAYS, AND WEDNESDAY BEFORE NOON TO BE SHIPPED OUT ON THURSDAYS.
