Herbal First Aid Kit
Life happens, and our loved ones get bumps, bruises, burns, bug bites, upset tummies, sore throats, and all the little things in between. Having a few trusted herbs on hand can make all the difference between feeling helpless and feeling confident in your ability to care for yourself and your loved ones.
This kit was created to bring herbal first aid back into the home. Simple, practical, and rooted in nature. These are the same herbs our ancestors relied on for comfort and care. Most of the herbs in this kit are gentle, multi-purpose, and easy to use in a variety of ways. Whether you’re making a quick poultice, brewing a calming tea, or applying a soothing salve, each herb has been chosen for its reliability, safety, and effectiveness.
As always, I’m not a medical professional, and this kit is for educational purposes only. Please do your own research, work alongside your physician when needed, and listen to your intuition. These herbs are generally safe for most people, but if you’re on medications or managing health conditions, it’s best to check for interactions first.
My goal is to help you feel calm and capable in those small, unexpected moments, the ones where nature’s medicine cabinet can quietly remind you: you’ve got this.
All the herbs in this kit are dried herbs, so you can make your Herbal First Aid Kit your own. Do you want to have Plantain in an oil infusion, or do you want to turn it into a salve…or maybe you want to grind it up and turn it into a powder. The choice is yours!
What is included in the Herbal First Aid Kit (All herbs are from organic or wildcrafted sustainable sources):
A packet full of information on each herb and directions on how to make different remedies.
Calendula 1 oz - Helps with most skin struggles. Wounds, cuts, scrapes, psoriasis, eczema, and acne, for example.
Chamomile 1.5 oz - Calms the body, reduces muscle tension, supports the digestive system, and soothes the skin.
Comfrey Leaf 1 oz - It’s wonderful for bruises, sprains, strains, and wounds. Helps repair tissues, bones, and skin.
Echinacea 2 oz - Helps to fight off viruses and infections.
Ginger 2.5 oz - Helps with nausea, gas, and bloating.
Lavender 1.5 oz - Calms the body, reduces muscle tension, is a pain reliever, and is very beneficial for wounds.
Marshmallow Root 1.5 oz - This herb is a demulcent and becomes mucilaginous when wet (it gets really slimy). This helps to soothe any tissues it comes in contact with.
Nettle 1.5 oz - Nourishing, helps to reduce seasonal allergies, reduces uric acid (I don’t think it will cure gout, but may reduce gout symptoms), and helps to detox the body.
Plantain 1.5 oz - Helps with most skin struggles. Wounds, cuts, scrapes, psoriasis, eczema, and acne, for example. Also draws things out of the skin like splinters, bee stingers, mosquito bite venom, and mild spider bite venom.
Thyme 1.5 oz - Thyme has strong antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, antimicrobial, and decongestant properties. It’s especially known for its powerful antiviral properties.
Yarrow 1.5 oz - Its a blood balancer. If you have a wound that keeps bleeding, try putting yarrow on, and it should either reduce or stop the bleeding. Also, one of my go-tos for fevers.
This list was difficult to put together without making it too big. Here are a few herbs I considered putting in the kit, but changed my mind at the last minute (not included in the kit):
Chickweed - Soothes the skin, draws things out of the skin, is beneficial for most skin struggles, and may help break up fatty tumors.
Comfrey Root - Helps the same way Comfrey Leaf does, but in a much deeper way.
Mullein - Supports and nourishes the respiratory system. It brings mucilage to the respiratory system, which is beneficial if you have a dry cough. Reduces unwanted toxins and pathogens in the lungs.
Willow Bark - This is a pain reliever.
Some additional items you may want for your Herbal First Aid Kit (not included in the kit):
Rescue Remedy (they make them for pets, too)
